This is the first edition 5 AED banknote issued by the Monetary Council of the United Arab Emirates (1973), without a specific year of issue (ND). Catalogue number Pick#2a. Printed by TDLR (UK), it features a horse head watermark and serial number 9B641994. Graded 40 points (Extremely Fine) by PMG, it is one of the first official circulating banknotes issued after the founding of the UAE and a classic early collectible of Middle Eastern Arab banknotes.
Front View Details (Arabic Text)
- The background is a blend of warm yellow and light pinkish-purple, surrounded by a symmetrical Islamic geometric border;
- The top features the Arabic inscription "United Arab Emirates Monetary Committee," with the denomination "Five Dirhams" prominently displayed in the center, and two sets of official signatures below;
- The main image on the left incorporates classic local elements: Arabian dhows, camel caravans, palm trees, and oil rigs, encapsulating the history of the UAE's traditional nomadic lifestyle, maritime trade, and modern oil industry;
- The left side features the Arabic numeral serial number 9B641994, and the large oval white area on the right side is the location of the horse's head watermark, with a full-page fine mesh anti-counterfeiting pattern.
Reverse Banknote Details (English Side)
- Light yellow-pink gradient background; top English label reads "UNITED ARAB EMIRATES CURRENCY BOARD"; the names of the seven emirates of the UAE are printed in full around the edge.
