Between 1904 and 1913 HSBC issued a green-face $1 that collectors nickname 拱橋 (“arched bridge”). The name does not refer to a bridge vignette; it describes the arched sweep of the bank title across the top of the note.
Catalogue and appearance
- Standard Catalog references place this $1 in the 1904–1913 HSBC issue as Pick 155 (with dated subtypes such as 1904 and 1906).
- Typical size is about 132 × 90 mm; face green, reverse orange in many descriptions of the issue.
- Compare the title curve carefully with the later 直橋: arched lettering versus a straight title bar is the nickname’s whole point.
Collecting notes
Date and signature combinations matter. When buying, match the printed date and signatories to P-155 subtypes rather than relying on nickname alone.
