Product Introduction

The 1866 Hong Kong Millennium Coin (commonly known as the Hong Kong Millennium) is the first domestic copper subsidiary coin issued by British Hong Kong after its establishment as a port. It has been professionally graded and encapsulated by the internationally renowned NGC, receiving a high MS65 BN uncirculated grade. It is a rare and representative pioneering piece in the history of Hong Kong modern coin collecting.

Obverse Details

The coin adopts a unique shape inspired by Chinese square-holed coins, with a round hole in the center within a square frame. The frame is cast with a British crown motif. The outer ring features the English words "HONG KONG," the year of minting (1866), and the initials of the Victorian Royal Family ("V.R."), surrounded by a fine serrated edge.

This MS65 uncirculated coin exhibits no signs of wear, scratches, or dents from circulation. The original minting surface texture is completely preserved. The coin is covered with a uniform, rich, natural brown patina, conforming to the BN grading standard. The crown and English lettering are deeply and sharply impressed, and the edge is intact without any defects or deformation.

Reverse Coin Details

Also featuring a square-holed round coin design, the obverse displays the vertically arranged traditional Chinese characters "香港一千" (Hong Kong One Thousand), seamlessly blending the traditional Chinese coinage system with the British colonial monetary system. It is a precious artifact representing the economic fusion of China and the West during the late Qing Dynasty.

The Chinese characters are clear and full, without any signs of wear or fading. The original casting details on the base are intact, and the overall color is uniform, free from any discoloration, patina, artificial cleaning, polishing, or repairs that would detract from its value.
