Product Description

This 1903 Hong Kong one-cent copper coin (Edward VII's first year minted) has been professionally certified and encapsulated by the internationally renowned NGC, graded XF40 BN, with a natural brown patina. It is the first year copper subsidiary coin in the Edward VII series from British Hong Kong, and is extremely rare. This century-old original specimen possesses significant historical and collectible value.

Obverse | Portrait of Edward VII

The rim is engraved with the English inscription "EDWARD VII KING & EMPEROR." The center features a profile portrait of King Edward VII with a crown and long beard, with clearly defined crown carvings and epaulettes.

XF40 Condition Characteristics:Excellent circulation grade. The overall outline of the coin is intact, and the details of the portrait are clear. Only the highest raised area of the portrait shows natural wear from circulation. The BN label indicates that this coin has not undergone any artificial treatment such as acid washing, wiping, or polishing, fully preserving the rich, natural brown patina formed by oxidation after minting, with a uniform and antique color.

Reverse Coin Design | Bilingual (Chinese and Western) Denomination

Features a double-layered beaded border. The outer ring is engraved with the English year and denomination "HONG KONG ONE CENT 1903". The center displays the traditional Chinese characters "香港一分" (Hong Kong One Cent) vertically. This coexistence of Chinese and Western characters is a unique characteristic of colonial Hong Kong's monetary era. The Chinese characters are complete, and the beaded border is free of broken teeth, defects, or corrosion pits. The coin edge is smooth and undeformed.
